What Members Are Saying
"I started out portraying a civilian school teacher for about a year, and now it's five years later and I'm portraying a soldier in the 1st U.S. unit too! I never thought I'd get a chance to experience history like this, but once I started it just sucked me in, and the ACWC has honestly become like a second family to me."

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are a few frequently asked questions to help get you started on your reenacting journey:
We'd love to help you out! We have limited amounts of loaner gear to help you get started. Boots and muskets are the hardest things to come by, so we recommend trying to get those early. However, before you buy anything, make sure to get confirmation from your unit commander to make sure you're not buying anything inauthentic or overpriced.
Because this is a living history group, the ACWC seeks to stay as close to period accurate standards as possible. With that being said, our rules and regulations state the following specifics:
Men and women must have tops and bottoms of correct pattern and material, footwear must be period correct in at least appearance, and eyewear must be the size that existed during the 1860’s.
Medical gear is of course an exception, and we're happy to help any new recruits get as authentic as possible before an event!
There are several places where you can buy period gear! We often buy/sell/trade gear amongst ourselves, but often buy new gear as well when then occasion calls for it. Click the link below to see our list of recommended suppliers.
We've had events all over the country, but our focus is here in the American Southwest. Pioneer Living History Village is a highly frequented spot for the ACWC.
It just depends! We require three major things before anyone can fall in:
1) A complete and passed ACWC Safety Test,
2) Paid dues and/or registration fees so that you are covered under our insurance
3) Period correct gear (Your own, or loaner gear from us)
This is why we like to try and have loaner gear on hand. If you try it and decide it's not for you, we completely understand!
